Kitchen Matters

This project covers the topic of a cooking device for two to four users. An important aspect is the interaction between users while they are cooking together as well as thinking through the communication between human and machine.
The basic idea consists of a cooking hob placed in the middle of a table that is accessible and controllable from two sides. The control elements are not fixed in a specific place but depend on the placement of pots and pans. Wireless control knobs are used to switch on and manupulate the power output of the areas.

When a pot is placed on the glass top of the induction hob it is marked by lighting the section. Once a wireless control knob is placed on either side of the marked area, it takes control of this area.

Important tools to find solutions during the design process and to uncover flaws were scenario techniques, paper mock-ups, role plays and interactive software prototypes of the interface.

In addition, a physical product was designed and presented through a scale model.
